Committed to promoting the development of children’s nursing through evidence-based information about practice and development

History

The first meeting of the Association of Sick Children’s Hospital Nurses was held in the Spring of 1938 in the East End of London. This meeting took place between Matrons of Children’s Hospitals and was called to discuss the need for an Association that could further the interests of sick children’s hospital nurses, to enable them to discuss matters pertaining to the nursing of sick children and to encourage social activities and stimulate goodwill and friendship.

The motto “Let Children everywhere be made well” was adopted by the Association on its 21st birthday. Members of the Association are kept informed of developments through the Journal and Newsletter.

To celebrate the Association's 70th anniversary, the history of the ABPN has been updated and is available for download.

This website has been developed using a generous legacy from Ginny Colliss who was an enthusiastic and committed member of the ABPN from the 1970's until her untimely death.
